Submerged arc flux is a welding method commonly used in steel structure fabrication. Here are the steps to use submerged arc flux in steel structure welding:




Prepare the materials and equipment - You will need a welding machine, welding electrodes, flux, and shielding gas. Ensure that all equipment is clean and in good condition.




Set up the welding machine and adjust the parameters - The current, voltage, and wire speed will vary depending on the thickness of the material being welded. Consult the welding machine manual for specific instructions.




Clean and prepare the joint - Remove any rust, oil, or debris from the joint area. Use a wire brush or grinder to clean the surface.




Align the materials to be welded - Position the materials in the correct alignment and tack weld them to hold them in place.




Apply flux - The flux is a mixture of chemicals and minerals that helps protect the weld pool from contamination. The flux is applied to the weld joint using a hopper or feeder.




Begin welding - With the equipment set and the joint prepared, begin welding the joint. The operator must keep the electrode tip perpendicular to the joint and move the welding torch at a consistent speed. The flux will melt, and the wire electrode will deposit molten metal onto the joint.




Monitor the weld - Ensure that the weld pool is consistent and free from defects. If any problems occur, adjust the parameters or clean the joint and remove any contaminants.




Complete the weld - Once the weld is complete, remove any excess flux and clean the weld area to remove any debris.
